The iconic Rolex brand was founded in 1905 by German born, Hans Wilsdorf at the age of 24. In 1908, Swiss manufacturers dominated the watch making industry. At that time, watchmakers still had difficulty in producing accurate movements for wristwatches. Wilsdorf had a vision to to change all this and create better, more reliable movements for his timepieces. The name “Rolex” actually came to him while riding on a horse-drawn omnibus in the city of London. The resounding success of the Rolex brand came as an unexpected surprise for everyone. Rolex watches include various designs ranging from casual, sporty to elegant. In 1910, Rolex was the first company to be recognized by the School of Horology in Switzerland and receive the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision. This prestigious award was bestowed upon the firm by the Official Watch Rating Center in Bienne. Rolex watches remain one of the most popular and classic timepieces in the market.
